Christmas at St Peter's Church is a very special time.. Its full of joy , full of peace , full of magic.
And the presence of God. We have a host of special events planned for you
Our scratch nativity at 10.00 am on 16th December helps you and your family get to the heart of Christmas while having a load of fun - repurpose your tea towels and dressing gowns as nativity costumes. Release your inner thespian.
For all ages from 0- 99. We obviously have got a part for a baby, and there are a few older characters in the story too!
But what if we end up with 3 virgin Mary's, 4 baby Jesus's 16 shepherds, and 3 wise women? Well that is part of the challenge and I'm sure we'll manage
Expect all the magic of Christmas (and as our vicar, Rev Mark is a bit of conjurer that may well happen quite literally!) - but also expect too to encounter the Christmas story in a new and challenging way.
We'll end by breaking bread and sharing wine around the crib!
The same evening at 6.00 pm its time for our Traditional Carol Service. We sing Traditional Carols by Candlelight with the help of our wonderful organist and choir. Interspersed with the old favourite Carols that we all love to sing are reading that tell the Christmas story and special choir items where we can relax and let the music take us deeper into the Christmas story
On Sunday the 23rd December we have our usual 8.00 am and 10.00 am services for the 4th Sunday in Advent
On Christmas Eve at 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm afternoon we have our popular Christingle services. These have become very much a part of how Rawdon celebrates Christmas together and we can no longer get everyone into Church for a single service so we now have two! Please come early for this service to ensure you get as seat.
And for many people Christmas eve is not complete without the service variously known Midnight Mass, Midnight Communion, Midnight Eucharist, Again celebrated by Candlelight we start at 11.30 pm so we can pause and welcome midnight hour and Christ's Birth. And it fine by us if you come covered in glitter and glue from wrapping presents, a little merry from Christmas celebrations, in you best Christmas outfit or even your slippers and dressing gown, or in a quieter mood to find a quiet corner if your Christmas isn't going so well! We just want all to be able make a little space for the Christ Child as well Santa Claus on Christmas night! Then its off home have shared some Christmas peace and the vicar at least it is time his traditional mice pie and glass of Malt Whisky and crawling into bed to enjoy a "silent night" before the festivities of Christmas morning
And on Christmas morning we celebrate twice . Our first at 8.00 is a rather more sober Christmas Day Communion according to the book of common Prayer. Then at 10.00 am there is a Family Communion. We invite children (and adults) to bring along Christmas gifts to show !
We keep this simple as we know you'll be off home to make sure the Turkey isn't burnt to a cinder!
